Food Prep Tips

Food preparation exercise

Food preparation can be seen as a waste of time or as an opportunity. It is an opportunity to connect with the food you will be eating and an opportunity to use your body in a way that exercises and strengthens it. Each time you stir vegetables in a pot or mix ingredients in a bowl, you are exercising many parts of your body. If you breathe deeply while you do food preparation, you will have the added benefit of strengthening your respiratory system. Approaching food preparation with awareness of its positive effects can improve your emotional and relationship health as well.

Cleaning leafy greens and other dirt-filled veggies

Leafy greens and vegetables like cauliflower and broccoli can be dirty and buggy so cleaning them well is important. Not using too much water is also important.

The best way to clean them is to fill a large bowl with water and 1 Tbsp vinegar and add the greens/cut up veggie.

Sorrel soaking

Let the greens/veggie sit for a few minutes in the vinegar water, then pour out the dirty water. Fill the bowl with water, swish it around, and pour out the dirty water. Repeat the washing until there is no more dirt. Pour the washed leaves/veggie pieces into a colander to drain.
